
German-English football fan, 22, dies in a crash on the streets of Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia state.
According to local media reports, the young man from Germany’s Bavarian state of North Rhineland-Palatinate was driving a rented car when he hit a car driven by an Irishman.
The driver of the car was taken to a hospital in Freiburg, Germany, where he died from his injuries.
The victim, a native of Co. Louth in Co. Meath, died on Thursday morning, local media reported.
A police spokesperson told the German news agency dpa that the Irishman was taken into custody after a preliminary investigation and that the crash was being investigated by the police.
The Irish man has been named as the driver of a rented BMW that was hit by the BMW.
He was reportedly taken to the hospital in Frankfurt for further treatment.
